About Surf Spot
Fuchslochwelle Nürnberg
The wave system, developed by the Dreamwave company in cooperation with the University of Innsbruck, was installed in a canal parallel to the Pegnitz River, which was created specifically for this purpose. The waves are generated purely by the flowing force of the water. During operation, the water of the Pegnitz is dammed by a weir in its original course and directed into the canal. Here it flows down the wave ramp and meets standing water at the bottom, creating a wave. Wave riders can surf on the wave against the direction of the flow of the river using an ordinary surfboard, like those used in the sea.
The quality and characteristics of the wave depend on the level of the Pegnitz River and the orientation of the multi-adjustable wave ramp. Since the wave ramp consists of three independent modules, the width of the wave is also adjustable. This ensures that regardless of the amount of water in the Pegnitz, a wave for surfing can be generated all year round.
