Ericeira
Ericeira is a fisher village on the west coast of Portugal about 40 minutes north of Lisbon. In a few kilometers of coastline, Ericeira – often referred to as the surfing capital of Portugal – offers an impressive diversity of surf opportunities. As a result, the region has constantly become increasingly popular over the past decade. In addition, Ericeira was officially declared as Europes one and only World Surfing Reserve in 2011 plus the fine point break of Ribeira D’Ilhas hosting WSL contests like the EDP Vissla Pro Ericeira.
Point Break
At a point break, the shoreline juts out into the water to form a headland. A wave that is lengthy, well-formed, and unlikely to close out or break in front of itself is created when a wave strikes a headland or pier and starts to peel down the extended shoreline. Point breaks typically only have one takeoff point and only travel in one direction, so you might have to wait in line to catch a wave. At these specific surf spots, quality prevails over quantity.
